WELLINGTON MURDER

Detectives in Wellington as well as in Auckland are still engaged in painstaking investigations. into a baffling murder. Nearly two months have passed since the discovery on the Evans Bay foreshore of the body of a garage proprietor, known asFrancis Roy Wilkins, whose real name was Roy Edward Wilkins.

Fingerprint work on a bloodstained car, outdoor searches for clues and a launch and mine detectors, and widespread interviewing which made the opening stages of the hunt for the killer so spectacular have been dropped but the checking and cross'-checking. of the huge amount of information compiled is continuing. 1 The Wilkins murder, indeed, seems likely to go on record as the case which yielded a large and varied amount of information including full reports on a projected car deal without proof of the identity of the murderer being found. Wilkins was mur-

dered on the evening of Monday. April 21, and the time that elapsed before the finding of his shot and battered body on the following Wednesday has been a inajor handicap in the investigations.

Detectives under the direction of Detective-Inspector J. Bruce Young are still confident that the crime will be solved and do not regard the lack of sensational developments lately as discouraging.
