BOXING FIGHTING SANDS
The Sands brothers, Australia’s famous fighting family, know how to put their opponents to sleep in the ring because by occupation they are sleeper cutters, their trainer (Tom McGuire) told me in Melbourne. The five brother? —Dave (triple champion of Australia), Clem (wel-ter-weight champion of New South Wales) and Ritchie, George and Alfie, who has knocked out two opponents in Melbourne recently, have a contract with the New South Wales Government for the supply of railway sleepers. As soon as they have a fight they go back to their camp near Newcastle to work. Toni McGuire attributes their punching power not only to their work with axes but also to the clean open air life they lead.
