Matron Resigns: The resignation of the matron, Miss D. M. Whisker, was accepted with regret at the monthly meeting of the Inangahua Hospital Board, and it was decided to forward a letter of appreciation to Miss Whisker and call for applications for the position. Miss Whisker, in a letter to the board, said it was impossible to carry on indefinitely under the existing conditions. One or two happenings of late had brought the knowledge very forcibly to her mind that people outside the hospital had no idea what the staff was up against and their demands on their time and patience was very exacting. She added that she had tried for over five years to make the hospital something worth while, but it was a losing battle and she had no alternative

but to resign. Combatting Erosion: The erosion problem in the Inangahua Valley will be tackled in a new and wider basis if plans submitted to the Inangahua County Council by the resident engineer of the Public Works Department (Mr E. F. Evans) come to fruition. The council at its monthly meeting gave interim approval to the suggestion that it should set aside a fixed sum of money each year for protective work and set up a sub-committee to go into the matter. Hospital Loan:

The Inangahua Hospital Board, at its meeting, received advice from the Health Department that it was to proceed to raise its own loan to cover its building costs, after it had made arrangements for the actual construction of a new nurses’ home and boiler-house, at an estimated cost of £43,000. The board, which had been under the impression that the Government would provide the finance for the building programme, decided to send a deputation to Wellington in an effort to clarify the position.
