COMMUNIST ADVANCES UPON CITIES IN MANCHURIA

NANKING, May 21. The Nationalist garrison at Changchun, capital of Manchuria, was isolated to-day when Communist troops captured the airport seven miles from the heart of the city and cut off railway communications. Government forces are reinforcing buildings and sandbagging intersections in anticipation of an imminent Communist attack. Communist troops- captured Kungchuling, 35 miles south of Changchun, cutting off men and supplies from Mukden. General Tu Li Ming, commander of the Government forces in Manchuria, has summoned his chief generals to an urgent meeting at Mukden to-day. Meanwhile students continue to demonstrate against the ciivl war. Nine of thirty students arrested in recent clashes with the troops have oeen turned over to the district court and the police fear that this will touch off further violence.

The Associated Press says that the Chinese Communists acted decisively to-day to prevent Government reinforcement of Changchun, the besieged capital of Manchuria. They cut the Peking-Mukden railway south of the Great Wall and captured Kung Chilling, a railway town 36 miles southwest of Chungchun.
