RUGBY LEAGUE WEST COAST UNION MEETING

The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby League was held on Tuesday evening, the president (Mr B. F. Connors) presiding. Also present were: Messrs P. E. Sweetman, B. Ramsay, Neilson, Kidd, Meates, Messenger and the secretary. • An application by the Lake Brunner Club for a schoolboy match to be played at Te Kinga as a curtainraiser to a senior reserve match was referred to the Schoolboy Control Board.

It was decided to adhere to the decision to play a representative fourth grade match at Christchurch on June 8, and to request that the team be selected on June 1. All teams that had not met Blackball, prior to the team’s withdrawal from the third grade competition, are to be awarded two points. Advice was received from the Railways Department that because of the acute shortage of coal stocks, it would not be possible to provide special trains for sports meetings this •winter. The League's request for a train from Ctira to Greymouth on the day of the Canterbury-West Coast fixture was refused. It was decided to apply for a rail-car in lieu of a steam train.

An application by the Blackball Club for an increase of 21 per cent, in the gate takings from matches played at the Blackball Domain was granted. A similar increase will be made in respect to gates at Wingham Park. It was stated that last year’s Blackballs share of the gate money amounted to £l7 17s, whereas over £6O had been spent on improvements, mainly to the playing area. The club will now received 121 per cent, of the gate money. WEEK-END FIXTURES Senior— Possibles v. Probables, Wingham Park, 2.24 (R. Baird). Senior Reserve—< Blackball v.
