RUGBY FOOTBALL WESTLAND SUB-UNION

At a meeting of the Sub-Union on Tuesday the following fixtures for Saturday were made: — Inangahua Reps. v. South Westland Reps. 1.30 p.m. (Referee: Mr J. Roberts;. Westland Reps. v. Greymouth Reps. 3 p.m. (Referee: Mr J. W. Bennett). It was resolved to ask the Borough Council to cut the grass on No. 2 ground. Messrs T. Gifford, A. Stevenson and F. West were authorised to make accommodation arrangements for the visiting teams on Saturday. E. G. Walker was appointed Captain of the Westland team ane R. Weiblitz Vice-Captain, and Mr A. Adamson was appointed manager. The following members were appointed to manage the visiting teams: South Westland, Mr S. Richardson; Inangahua, Mr T. Gifford and Greymouth, Mr B. Stevens. It was resolved to donate last Saturday’s takings to the Injured Players' Fund. Mr McKenzie, secretary of the Post Office and Forestry teams, forwarded the gate receipts of Sunday’s match amounting to £6 15s as a donation to the Injured Players' Fund. Mr J. Gardyne also forwarded a donation to the Fund amounting to £7 10s. It was resolved to express appreciation to both teams, and to Mr Gardyne for their help for the Fund.

It was resolved that junior trial games be played s.t Ross on Sunday and that the secretary arrange bus transport, Mr E. J. Allan to act as manager, and that his co-selectors travel with the teams.

It was reported that the West Coast team to play Canterbury at Greymouth on June 2 would be selected after the trial game on Saturday, and the Westland -junior reps would be selected after the trial games at Ross. The West Coast Union notified that the Sub-Union’s challenge for the Dittman Shield would be forwarded to Inangahua on June 1. It was reported that referees would hold a conference at Hokitika on Saturday evening. It was decided to donate 30s to assist the Referees in the entertainment of visiting referees The Road Services forwarded its schedule of bus charges for teanw and the manager was thanked for his interest. ALTERATION TO SIXTH GRADE DRAW On Saturday in the sixth grade competition, Cobden will play United in a friendly match.
