HOKITIKA R.S.A. VOTES FOR CHANGE IN ANZAC DAY SERVICE

At the annual meeting of the Hokitika Branch of the Returned Services Association the following mcers were elected: — Patron: Mr A. R. Elcock; President: Mr W. M. Fraser; Vice-Presi-dents: Messrs O. J. Hutchison and J. B. Butland; Secretary: Mr G. Gilchrist; Auditor: Mr E. T. Stoop. A motion was moved by Mr O. J. Hutchison as follows: ‘‘That this meeting is agreed that the form of service for Anzac Day should be changed, and that, the incoming Executive should make arrangements with the c=vil and religious authorities to have the change made. The form to be a parade of service personnel to the memorials to lay wreaths, and then to their respective churches for their own religious servives.” The motion was carried. There were seventeen nominations for positions in the executive of the Association and the following were elected:—Messrs A. W. Black, R. Eastgate, J. Leslie, H. Pierson, . J Peake, V. Wall. R. Patterson, P. J. Grcufsky, A. J. Richrds and E. G. Kennedy. The balance sheet was as follows: Receipts, £1520 16s sd, payments, £1241 4s 7; Suspense Account receipts, £lOl 17s 6d; Building Account receipts, £439 9s 2d, payments, £246 15s; Relief Account receipts, £444 7s sd, payments £407 Ils lOd; National Savings Account, £269 4s; War Graves Account receipts £llO 16s fid, payments £2l 6s 4d; Assets, £3.570 18s 6d; Liabilities, £362 10s 4d. tl was decided that the following remits submitted by Mr A. Shannon bo forwarded to the annual conference:—

1. That legal expanses for the purchase of property through rehabilitation be treated as preliminary expenses, and written off income tax declarations over a period of three years, so as to bring farming into line with company legislation. 2. That special depreciation, under Section 15 of the Finance Act, 1945, of three per cent, sinking fund be made available to soldiers taking over assets that have been ' valued on present prices, not on cost.
