Lake Coleridge Level Lower
CHRISTCHURCH, May 20.
Keen regret that Mr S. Trotter, engineer to the Grey Electric Powe?’ Board, had said that the position at Lake Coleridge was improving was expressed by Mr E. Hitchcock, manager of the Municipal Electricity Department yesterday. The position was actually that instead of showing an improvement the level of Lake Coleridge had dropped slightly, and an official had described the position as "very serious indeed.” The level of Lake Coleridge yesterday, Mr Hitchcock said, was 1665.25 feet above sea level, which was a fall below figures previously recorded. The overflow level was 1673 feet. The flow in the Waitaki river, at 5000 cusecs, still remained unchanged and he could not understand how in the light of these figures anyone could claim that the position had improved. i
