Wellington streets the other day had some resemblance to prewar holiday occasions. Almost every child —and many of the adults — carried a balloon. There were constant queues at the counters in the .Wellington chain stores, where these balloons were on sale for the first time since before the war. Manufactured at Petono, the balloons are said to be equal in quality to anything ever imported from overseas. The factory has been manufacturing balloons since December after being reconverted from war work. More than 50,000 were released to Wellington stores and nearly all were sold by 5 p.m. the same day. The next quota will be sent to other New Zealand towns, so future supplies for Wellington will be uncertain for some time. As in other industries, lack of labour is retarding production.
