Mrs. R. Heslop and Miss M. Heslop of Greymouth, left by yesterday’s express on a holiday visit to Canterbury.

Mrs. W. Minchin of Wellington, who has been on a holiday visit to rtlatives in Greymouth, returned by yesterday’s express.

Mr. R. Clarke, Postmaster at Kumara. will leave on transfer to a similar position at Paekakariki on May 29. He will be replaced by Mr. J. F. Fitzpatrick of Christchurch, who will arrive at Kumara to take up his duties on May 27.

Mr Robert Moffat, who was senior inspector of the National Bank of New Zealand until his retirement for health reasons in November, 1938. died yesterday at Wellington. Born in Scotland. Mr Moffat came to New Zealand in 1880. He entered the service of the National Bank at Milton in 1898.—PA.

The appointment of Mr Philip A. Smithells, M.A., F.P.E.S., as the first Director of the School of Physical Education, which is commence operations next year, was announced at the monthly meeting of the Council of the University_of Otago yesterday. Mr Smithells is at present Superintendent of Physical Culture in the New Zealand Education Department.—P.A.

The Director of the Internal Marketing Division, Mr R. P. Fraser, has resigned to re-enter commercial life. During the war Mr Fraser assumed important duties in connection with the rationing of foodstuffs and their' supply to Allied forces, but, now that many of these, war-time activities have ceased, he has decided to accept an appointment outside the Public Service. “Mr Fraser has carried out his complex duties in an efficient and courageous manner, and, as Minister in Charge of the Internal Marketing Division, I am sorry to lose his services”, said the Minister of Marketing, Hon. Mr Cullen, when announcing Mr Fraser’s resignation.—Press Assn.
