Meat for Britain Killed by Non-unionists
BRISBANE, May 19. Police supervised the killing of cattle for Britain by non-members of ployees’ Union at Lake’s. Creek meat the Australian Meat Industry Emwas expected after the union banned works, near Rockhampton. Trouble the management decision to slaughter during the week-end. No trouble occurred and the police were later withdrawn. - At the nearby Gladstone works more than 650 unionists slaughtered cattle throughout the week-end.. Both plants introduced week-end killing to overtake the lag in their quota of meat for export to Great Britain and other countries. The Rockhampton branch of the union is considering a ban on the meat slaughtered by non-unionists, but the shipping authorities say the rate of production must be maintained or the ships will be turned away.
