£15,000 DAMAGE IN AUSTRALIAN HOTEL BLAZE
(Rec. 8.0). • SYDNEY, May 19. Rescuers had to light their way through dense smoke to save two men and a woman and a baby from the fiercely burning Royal Hotel at Gunnedah to-day .One man was dragged unconscious by a woman along a blazing, smoke-filled corridor. She was running along the corridor when she stumbled over the body of a man. She managed to drag him to the top of the stairs before they were located by rescuers. All those overcome with smoke >’ecovred after treatment.
The lire which gutted the left wing of the hotel and three offices in the building, commenced in the early hours and raged for five hours before being brought under control by the Gunnedah brigade.
The damage is estimated at £15,000.
