COURT-MARTIAL P.A. AUCKLAND, May 18. At a courtmartial at Papakura, Trooper Clifford James Smith pleaded not guilty to a charge of losing by neglect clothing and regimental necessities valued at £l6 5s 4d. 'To a further charge wf desertion from the Second N.Z. Divisional Cavalry first relief draft at Papakura from April 29, 1946, to April 30, 1947, the accused pleaded not guilty, but admitted being absent without leave. Private Donald Angus McLeod, N.Z.T.S. ,was charged with being absent without leave from No. 2 Training Unit at Papakura between April 1 and April 16. He pleaded not guilty, and said that he overstayed his leave. Charged with unlawfully converting a motor- vehicle, Driver Neal Roderick Alcock, of the Supply and Transport Depot. Ngaruawahia, pleaded guilty. To a further charge of driving without due care and attention, he pleaded not guilty. SUDDEN DEATH OF MAN ON THEFT CHARGE NAPIER, May 19. Thomas William Wilson, married, aged 42, was found lying unconscious on the footpath outside hi£' home in Paradise road on Saturday evening. He died shortly after. A bottle of poison was found in his possession Wilson was to have appeared in court on Wednesday charged with the theft at Hastings o" 23 diamond rings, valued at £7OO. At the time of his death he was ’on bail.
