SHOCK NOT INTENSE.

P.A. WELLINGTON. May 19. The first record of the tremor was recorded a't the Dominion Observatory at 7.7 p.m. on Saturday and continued for some time. As the examination of the record has not been completed, no estimate could be Riven of the distance from the coastline where the earthquake originated, but the indications are that it was probably from the same region, east-south-east of Gisborne, as the March 26 earthquake, which was also 1 followed by a tidal wave. The shock was. however, not quite so intense this time.
