ANGLO-U.S. PLANS FOR ZONES IN GERMANY

(Rec. 8 50). LONDON, May 19. The Foreign Secretary, Rt. Hon. Ernest Bevin, announced in the House of Commons an agreement between Britain and the United States on the fusion of their two zones in Germany. He said the agreement cover<f- three main points. The first was that of the appropriation and joint expenditure of British and American funds to rehabilitate German industries and to further Germany’s im-port-export programme. The second was that of regulations strictly defining the limited executive and legislative powers of live bi-zonal administrative offices. Thirdly, there was agreement, in principle, on the establishment of an economic council, which will consist of delegates nominated by the German States in proportion to their populations, and will have the power to function as a legislative body, within certain limits.
