Lahore Strife News Under Censorship

NEW DELHI, May IS.

News of the situation in Lahore will in future be limited to information realsed by the authorities. Sir Evan Jenkins has prohibited the publication of all unofficial reports. Fire-raisers to-day again attacked the garin market. They forced open several shops, stripped them of all their fittings and set them blazing. There were a dozen major fires in different areas within the walled city and the brigades left the market fire to burn itself out. < The district magistrate, Mr J. C. Eustace, said the rioters used firearms against the police and troops intervening in a fight between rival factions. The rioters had pistols and rifles. The police and Gurkhas opened fire, injured 11 and killed an unknown number. The rioters also threw brickbats and blazing wads of petrol-soaked cloth. The people brought the situation under control. Smoke from a burning temple and blazing bullion and silk maikets made a dense column which was visible for many miles. Shops, houses, and a clothing bazaar are reported to have been set alight in 12 parts of the city.
