NORTH ISLAND HYDRO SUPPLY IMPROVED BY GOOD RAINS

P.A. WELLINGTON, May 19. Rain l as fallen there for three days in succession, and Lake Waikaremoana has just shown the sharpest rise in its level that has been recorded since last winter.

Compared with the level on Saturday morning, the water was almost one foot higher at 9 o’clock this morning. At Waikaremoana, one point fifteen inches of rain was recorded In 24 hours' up to 9 a.m. on Saturday, and the lake level was at 1997 point six feet above sea level.

On Sunday morning, the 2'4 hours had given one point seventy-six inches, and this morning a further point 96 inches of rain had fallen, the combined effect being a rise in the lake level to 1998 point five feet. No rain was reported at Lake Taupo over the week-end, but the level of Lake Taupo rose by point nought five of a foot. Apparently this is the result of rain at the end of last week.

At Mangahao, there was no rain over the week-end. The dams are practically full.
