Employment of Women In N.Z. Army Being Considered

P.A. WELLINGTON, May 2. The policy decision on the question of employment of W.A.A.C.’s in the post-war regular forces, has not yet been reached by the Government, but all aspects of the question are being considered, said the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) to-day, adding that it was expected to announce the decision at an early date. Mr. Jones said that if it was decided to include women in the army, they would serve as soldiers, .will wear uniform, and would be remunerated under a special pay schedule laid down for the. W.A.A.C. It was agreed, said the Minister, that there were many suitable avenues of employment in the services for women personnel, but other factors existed which made such employment uneconomic. |
