PRISON SENTENCES AT DUNEDIN DUNEDIN, May 2. “It is unusual to find one of your race before the court for an offence against your fellow-countrymen,” said Mr. Justice Kennedy, in sentencing Wong Wai Fai, a Chinese market gardener, to one year’s reformative detention on a charge of receiving money and goods stolen from other market gardeners. Other prisoners sentenced were: William Albert Harrington, aged 43, a farmer, two and a half years- reformative detention for attempted rape, the woman in the case being his mother-in-law, aged 70. George Wilfrid Charles Hogg, aged 22, a seaman, 15 months reformative detention for bigamy. George Yorath Legge, aged 41, a hairdresser, two years’ reformative detention for incest. Veronica Doris Luscombe, aged 49, one year’s probation for theft of public money while acting as a country postmistress.
