Mass Settlement In Bay of Plenty Not Yet Advisable

ROTORUA, May 2. The opinion that the time was not ripq for mass land settlement in the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty districts was expressed by the Minister of Agriculture and Marketing, Hon E. L. Cullen ~addressing a meeting convened by him of the Rotorua and Ngongotaha Branch of the Federated farmers, in Rotorua to-day. Mr W. Sullivan, M.P. was also present. A mapor difficulty was the supply of fertiliser which would be necessary to bring in large land areas in the district, the Minister said. However, he hoped to be able to announce soon that the rationing had been taken 1 off the phosphate supplies. The success of any farming schemes would depend largely on getting land on which the settlers would want to remain, he added. Men would do very well in establishing themselves, but to put men on in large numbers at the present time would be wrong, he contended.
