(Out Own Correspondent) ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Westffind Acclimatisation Society was held at Hokitika recently, when the j following officers were elected for the ensuing year. F. Pierson, Ross; A. Graham, Waiho, W. Adamson, Wataroa, Geoffrey Friend, Okarito. The president presented a lengthy report covering the activities of the association during the past year. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs E. Dundas, C. Preston and H. Thompson was set up to go into the matter of ascertaining the most suitable types of bird game available for West Coast conditions. The society’s eel trap in Mahinapua Creek was discussed at some length. The primary purpose of the eel trap was to find out the migratory population of the eels. The oil in the eels was valuable and actually there was now a market for the eels themselves. It was decided that the eel trap be kept operation until the end of Maj r , and that necessary repairs to it be carried out. It was decided to continue the system of payment of 2s 6d bounty on tails only of stoats and weasels, although other societies were requesting that full skins be produced before bounties would be paid. It was decided to apply to the Conservator of Fishing for a further 200,000 rainbow trout ova. The chairman explained that this was a fourth year of a five-year plan in regard to the planting of ova in streams in Westland in order to increase the trout population. Members remarked that they had seen shoals of voung trout, about It inches long in Harvey’s Creek and Sunny Bight Creek.
