INCREASE OF RENTS PROPOSAL REJECTED BY U.S.A. HOUSE

(Rec. 6.55). WASHINGTON, May 2. The House of Representatives rejected, by 135 votes to 119, a Bill seeking to increase rents by ten per cent. The House then voted, by 204 to 182, to extend the rent controls at least until December 31 next. Any State, county, city or town, however, may terminate the rent controls earlier if it desires. The Bill now goes to the Senate, whose Labour Committee already has rejected the proposal for a ten per cent, rent increase.
