AIR FORCE MUFTI ALLOWANCE NOT BOTH WAYS

P.A. WELLINGTON, April 16. Replying to complaints about the abolition of the mufti allowance for R.N.Z.A-.F. members, the Air Secretary, Mr. T. A. Barrow, said to-day that the present position was that the mufti allowance was payable in conjunction with old rates of pay, but was not payable under the conditions of issue of the new rates. Members who elected to take their release within two weeks after* the new rates and conditions had been published would be allowed to choose whether they remained on the old rates of pay and allowances —which included exemption from taxation and payment of mufti allowance —or whether they received the new rates of pay without mufiti allowance.
