During last winter many hundreds of wild pigs were destroyed in a successful poisoning campaign out New Zealand. The campaign was handicapped last year because no finality was reached in the plan until May and it could not be fully implemented during the winter. This year it is intended to intensify the campaign which will have a clear run through the winter months'. It is expected that many local bodies that failed to take advantage of the Government’s subsidy on expenditure of £ for £ last year will be taking part in the campaign to destroy the pest' this winter. Poison has proved a more effective method than shootings The poison is injected into the car-, cases of dead animals and when, the pigs come down from the high country in the winter months they eat the decomposing flesh and die.
