Mr A. Beck, until recently engaged in surveying operations in North Auckland, has replaced Mr G. W. Patterson on the staff of the Coal Resources, Greymouth. Mr Beck is a product of the University of Otago, having graduated as M.Sc. with honours in Geology. He was also assoc:ated with the Otago School of Mines.

A pleasant social was held in Youc Hall Cobden, on Thursday evening, when the parishioners of the Church of the Resurrection, and friends, met to farewell the Rev. O. E. Harding and Mrs Harding. Mr Harding has been vicar of Cobden and Runanga for the past five years, and leaves for Picton on Tuesday. On behalf of the parishioners, Mr R. Jamieson, vicar's warden, made a presentation to the guest of an envelope of notes. Mr H. G. Stiles, on behalf of the Horticultural Society, made a presentation of a fireside chair to Mi’ Harding.

The death occurred suddenly at Runanga yesterday morning of Mr David Healy, of Runanga, who was found dead in bed. He resided with Mr and Mrs J. Sheard, at Seddon Terrace, Runanga. He was employed at the Liverpool State mine. A native of Newcastle, New South Wales, he was 51 years of age. He served in the First World war. He was a member of the Runanga branch, of the R.S.A., and was a foundation member of the Runanga Bowling Club, and also a member of the Runanga Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. He is survived by a sister Mrs Keaver, of Timaru. The funeral will take place at the Karoro cemetery to-morrow afternoon.
