[Our Own Correspondent]. HECTOR, March 20. Mrs McArthur presided over a well attended meeting of the Hector Women’s Institute, which was held in the Savage Memorial Plall on Tuesday evening. Arrangements were finalised for the Institute birthday which will be held on March 28. After completion of business, Mrs McArthur presented Mrs J. H. Tyler with a gift on behalf of the Institute as a token of the work she had clone while a member of that body. She wished Mr and Mrs Tyler and family, the best of health and happiness in their new home in Christchurch. The election of ollicers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: President, Mrs McArthur (re-elect-ed); vice president, Mrs M. Levy; secretary, Mrs A. Neilson (re-elect-ed unopposed); treasurer, Mrs S. Barnes; committee, above officers and in addition Mesdames Dwyer, Robertson, Philp and Tyler. Delegates to the annual meeting of the Buller Federation: Mesdames McArthur and Dwyer. Stockton supporters of the HectorNgakawau Co-Operative Society Ltd., attended a meeting held at Ngakawau recently, and reported on the canvasing they had carried out in Stockton and Millerton. Mrs Tyler (president) congratulated them on their efforts. It was decided that Mr C. Barnes’ business premises be bought, and that a branch of the Hector-Ngakawau Co-operative Society, Ltd., be opened on March 17. Mr W. Fleming was appointed manager of the Stockton shop. Mrs Tyler presided over a meeting of the Hector Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. Letters from the Hon. P. C. Webb, Head Office, and Labour Daily Newspapers Ltd., were read and dealt with.

Before leaving the chair for the annual election of officers and committee, Mrs Tyler gave an impromptu report of the activities of the branch during the past years. She regretted being unable to 4 give a full report the reason being that she had only learned a short time before the meeting that it was to be held. Mrs Tyler then thanked her committee and all members for their support and cooperation during her term of office.

The election of officers resulted as follows. —President, Mr S. R. Johnston; vice-president, Mr S. Johnston; secretary-treasurer, Mr W. McFarlane; committee: Mrs Tyler, Messrs Neilson, Gilbert, Gear and Goddard; delegate to national conference, Mr Johnston; auditors, Messrs J. Dowgray and J. Poynter. The balance sheet was adopted as satisfactory.
