Westland National Savings Show All Round Improvement

There was a considerable improvement, all-round, in national savings returns during the past week throughout the Westland postal district, when contributions totalling £2odi 13s were almost double the weekly quota figure of £1063. Six of the ten offices were successful. All ten were credited with quota successes by utilising accumulated surpluses. The six successful offices contributed £2OOOl IBs, £lO4B ' 18s above their quota. The remaining four stations invested only £3 15s, which left a shortage of £7O 5s on the required figure. Greymouth led with £ll7l Bs, £651 8s above its quota. Reefton contributed £215 18s or £142 18s above its quota. Hokitika contributed £278 19s 6d, £93 19s 6d above the quota. Kumara’s contributions totalled £ll4 19s, or more than three times the required total of £25. Blackball more than doubled its quota with lodgments of £lO2 19s 6d. Runanga’s total of £ll7 14s gave a surplus of £l7 14s. Brunnerton failed, lodging only £3 17s 6d, which was £46 2s Gd deficient. Ocira was 13s short of its £lO requirement. Ross, £7 18s down for the week, lodged £l7 2s. Waiuta with contributions of £9 Ss 6d, was £l5 11s Gd short.

The campaign throughout New Zealand for 10.000 new group accounts by March 31, is progressing satisfactorily. The total was 8,873 up to February 28. Westland’s contribution is 252, but it is hoped that the 400 mark may be reached before the end of the month.
