RED ARMY BURDEN ON AUSTRIAN PEOPLE
WASHINGTON, March 10. Mr Herbert Hoover, in his report on Austria, made the . charge that Russia, by keeping big occupying forces in Austria and requisitioning large amounts of property, had hindered Austria’s economic recovery, thus increasing • the burden on the taxpayers of other countries which were endeavouring to keep Austria from starvation. Mr Hoover declared that the four occupying Powers could help Austria by economic union of their zones, but the chief obstacle to that was Russia’s unwillingness to co-operate.
