ANOTHER BOUT

MURPHY AND JONES

Enthusiasm Runs High

The Petone Recreation Grounds should again be full to capacity to-night for another memorable clash between Bos Murphy (N.Z.) and Willie Jones (U.S.A.). There is a great air of conjecture as to the outcome of the bout, and the genreal opinion before their last meeting was that Murphy would win after a " solid fight. This time, however, the coloured boxer is conceded an even chance.

Murphy, it will be remembered, did not handle the negro with a great degree of confidence in their ‘first meeting, and later on, appeared impotent as Jones adopted on aggressive role.

There should be little difference in the weights. Jones, as in his first bout, will be sure to exploit the lack of versatility of Murphy’s right. He will not be able to take the same liberties as he- did with McCann, as Murphy’s defence and footwork leave little to be desired. Should Jones land a left hook on Murphy with the same force as he hit McCann, then the New Zealand champion is in for a hot time. Murphy, undoubtedly faces the stiffest task in his already short but successful career; stiffer even than when he met and defeated Vic Patrick. He is meeting a man his equal, and a classy man, with a knock out punch in each glove.

The outcome is awaited with keen interest, and already enthusiasm runs high, for what should be one of the best bouts in the boxing history of New Zealand.
