BLACKBALL NOTES

fOur Own Correspondent]. Mr C. Hogg, of Ashburton has been here on a visit to his relatives. Mrs R. Donaldson, of Ross, is visiting her sister, Mrs B. J. Williams. Mr and Mrs D. Kidd, of Reefton were visitors to Mrs D. Kidd, Snr., Main Road. Mr W. Pendelbury, Clifford Street, has entered Grey Hospital for treatment. The continued spell of fine weather is again straining the drinking water in the village. Not only are some householders tanks empty, but since the water race is also out of commission, it all tends to aggravate the position and something will have to be done to relieve the situation. A working bee under the charge of Mr D. Fitzgerald is busy erecting the pavilion at the bowling green on the Blackball Domain. The present weather is' suitable for such work and great strides are being made. When completed, the pavilion will fill a long felt want and will reflect great credit on all the workers and those who made it possible. A special general meeting of ihe local branch of ,the Labour Party was held at the Miners’ .Hall on Sunday, Dr. Aylward pres-iding over a fair attendance. Delegates were again present from the Roa branch and from the Blackball District Miners' Union. Arrangements were completed for the running of a victory dance in the Miners' Hall on Wednesday evening, after the pictures, and also for the banquet to be held to-morrow evening, in honour of Hon. P. C. Webb.
