KUMARA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent] On Monday evening the members of the Kumara Volunteer Fire Brigade assembled to farewell Fireman Geo. F. Hunt, who has served with the 'Brigade for the past ten years, and who left on Tuesday’s' express for Fatea, where he has accepted an appointment. Captain Neame, who presided, said Fireman Hunt had ‘been a regular attender and a willing and conscientious worker in all branches of Brigade work. Although not a competition man, he had carried out the duties of custodian of the fire fighting gear, and had always been present when his services l were needed. Captain Neame on behalf of the Brigade, handed him an electroplated cigarette case suitably inscribed. Foreman Burridge endowed the remarks of Captain Neame, And paid tribute to the services of Fireman Hunt to all members preparing for competition practise. Ex-C'apt. J. Holmes said that when he heard of Fireman Hunt’s departure he felt sure the Brigade would tender him a formal farewell. He had been a great help in many ways' and also served on the Picnic Committee and RiS.A. He wished him health and prosperity in the North Island. Lieut. Geo. McEnamey said Fireman Hunt had been a great helper on the social side and wished' him future success. Foreman C. Haines said the Brigade was losing the services of a good member and he hoped that he would soon join another Brigade and continue his good service. Fireman Hunt had helped all sports bodies and the Red Cross. Mr W. J. Benyon, although regretting it was farewell, was pleased to see such a good attendance. He hoped he would be able to join the Patea Brigade and wished him well. Mr W. Lawrence said all appreciated the services to the Brigade and other oports bodies of Mr Hunt. He had also served with him on the Borough Council and he had always been a sure worker when a working bee was required. Secretary W. J. McNabb said the "Brigade regretted the loss of a good member, but hoped the Briade would not lose contact with him. Other speakers were Messrs J. Comport, V. Louden, T. McGill, E. Collie, G. Ryan, Don Brown, J. Ryall and W. Bell.

Fireman Hunt said he regretted leaving Kumara, but for health reasons had to seek lighter work. He thanked members for their gift, which he would always treasure, and he would ever retain kind thoughts of Kumara, its Brigade and its people.
