WATAROA NOTES

fOur Own Correspondent]. There is an epidemic of influenza raging through the Wataroa district and working-men during the past few weeks 1 , have been, confined to their beds. Several members of the Westland Catchment Board visited Wataroa and South Westland during the week to discuss .river erosion and conservation of soil with the settlers. It is lhe opinion of many South .Westland residents that the board will be able to counteract the p.cblems and menaces', which, have reigned in this district for many years.' The fat stock and store cattle sale which was held here last week attracted a large number of buyers and much of the stock present went for high prices. The Gibb brothers herded a nice line of cattle, including black-pole Herefords, and short-horn cross, some of which realised over £2O. Mr D. Stewart, of Hokitika, passed through Wataroa last week on his way to Bruce Bay. There has been little inconvenience to traffic during the raising of the Waitangi Bridge and it is expected that the work will soon be completed.
