The St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Social Club conducted a successful "bring and buy” last week, in aid of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Cobden. Funds amounted to £35. Atmore at Nelson yesterday, there was a ’large attendance, including six members' of the House, namely, the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser), Hon. C. F. Skinner, Messrs Denham, Meachen, Broadfoo.t and Mackley; also M. Ziabkin (Soviet Minister), Mr W. Deavoll (who was secretary to Mr Atmore when he was Minister of Education). Rev. James Hay, in a funeral service tribute, said the late Mr Atmore was Member for Nelson for thirty years, and served his' city in many capacities as a good citizen, and his country as an able legislator. To thousands of people in Nelson, Mr Atmore was far more .than their representative in Parliament; he was their friend. He had an unswerving loyalty to an idealism based on Christian principles,and made many earnest appeals for the fulfilment of Christian philosohy.
