PALESTINE TROUBLE

British Ships Sabotaged (Rec. 6.30) LONDON, Aug.; 22. - Allied headquarters at Caserta denied the Trieste report that .the First' Armoured Division is replacing the Sixth Airborne Division in Palestine. The report is described as “absolutely false.” The Haganah radio, “Voice of Israel,” announced that members of the Jewish resistance movement; sabotaged the Empire Rival and they were also responsible for the bomb in the Empire Heywood on August 18. The members of the resistance*, movement would continue such ac-. tivity so long as the deportations of Jews continued. It is officially announced that four suspected Jewish terrorists have been deported to Eritrea. In Palestine more than 1500 Jewish; exr-servicemen at a meeting to-day sent a resolution to General Cunningham urging Britain to abandon her, present policy regarding Jewish immigration. The resolution declared: “Open Palestine’s gates to the victims of Nazism.” The Stern gang’s monthly organ, “The Deed” warns that if the 18 members of the Stern gang sentenced to death at Haifa on August 16 are executed the laws of the Jewish underground will operate immediately. It adds that these laws provide for death penalties and for the outlawing of all members of the British civil and military administration in Palestine,, all members of the Palestine police and criminal investigation’ department and also any Britisher carrying firearms. A Jewish detainee, Yacob Nefhauser, who escaped from Latrun detention camp two nights ago, was shot ■ in the back and recaptured by Palestine police last night. Neihauser is now in a Government prison
