CRICKET

M.C.C. TEAM LONDON, August’ 12. Fishlock, Edrich and James Langridge complete the M.C.C. team for Australia. Langridge, during the season, has taken 75 wickets for an average of 33. and he has scored 1194 runs at an average of 33. Fishlock has no superior as a left-hand batsman. Edrich’s selection may cause controversy, because of his many failures in batting against Australia in 1938, but he is now playing much better. The team is strong in batsmen, but a. little lean in first-rate all-rounders and bowlers'. The average age of the 17 players is 33, which is much higher than usual. No young top-class players have been developed. The oldest are Hammond, aged 43, Langridge 40, and Fishlock 39. The youngest are Evans, aged 25, Ikin and Bedser, each 28. N.Z.’er. MAKES GOOD AT BOWLING (Special to Press Association). (Rec. 6.5). LONDON, August 12. Tom Pritchard, a twenty-eight-years-old New Zealander, by qualifying at cricket for Warwickshire, has supported the view of many good judges that he is the fastest bowler seen in England, since Larwood. He did this by some superb bowling against India at Edgbaston on Friday, says the Daily Telegraph. Pritchard had conditions 1 all against him, with a greasy ball, a wicket varying from near to easy-pased, which were not encouraging for a bowler making a first appearance in English first-class cricket. Despite these handicaps, Pritchard, working up a fine pace, claimed Hazare, Mankad, and Mahomed in seven balls without conceding a run. He returned figures of 10/6/9/3 in an hour’s spell. His final analysis was 43/19/46/4. It reflects the accuracy with which he bowled.
