WITHIN A WEEK SALESMAN’S BOOKMAKING P.A. WELLINGTON, August 12. A man was convicted of bookmaking last Tuesday, when he was fined one hundred’ pounds. He appeared in the Magistrates Court again to-day. He was charged with bookmaking on Saturday. He pleaded guilty.. He was lined two hundred and fifty pounds. “I shan’t, inflict imprisonment on this occasion, but I shall iif he does it again,” said the magistrate, Mr. J. L. Stout. According to the evidence, the accused, Robert Colie, a salesman aged fifty-eight, had taken £l4l 15s in bets over the telephone up to the time that detectives arrived on the premises. His explanation was that he was obliging his clientele for the last time. Seymour Hardie, a store-man, aged thirty-two, was also charged with bookmaking on Saturday. He was fined one hundred pounds. It was the first time he was before the court.
