SYDNEY’S RECORD HEAT

AUGUST RECORDS BROKEN. (Rec. 10.51.) . SYDNEY, August 12. To-day was the hottest August day in Sydney ever to go on record. At 1.30 p.m. the reading was 82.6 degrees. The previous record was 82 degrees. It was made in 1884. It was passed at 12.30 p.m. This great heat followed a night which broke all heat records dating backs to the year 1859, the first year that records were taken. The reading was 69.5 degrees and the temperature soon passed into the seventies, making the night the hottest since February 3rd last. If no rain falls before nine o’clock to-morrow morning, the all time record of thirty-two dry days in Sydney will have also been broken.
