A lively discussion was aroused today at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Education Institute, when a remit was put forward, asking that a sub-committee be set up to confer with the Federation of Labour, and report back, with a view to a closer association between the two bodies. The remit came from the Southland branch of the Institute. Spirited opposition to th eremit was expressed by speakers. Several amendments were proposed. These were rejected. Finally, the remit was put to the meeting in its original form. It was decisively defeated.
