MILLERTON NOTES

> (Our Own Correspondent) The annual combined Miners’ Union ■ and School Committee Picnic was [ held at Mokihinui on Saturday. The ; weather was ideal and a large number of school children and parents - attended. All were conveyed by Bradley Motors. During the day . races : were held for the children- under the ■ supervision of Mr. Boyes, the head teacher. The combined ladies’ committee provided excellent refreshments. The local bowlers' are taking advantage of the good weather which prevails and are having their local competition rinks played off. The death has occured in the Buller Hospital of Mrs. Isabella Wardman Mann, wife of Mr. J. Mann of Millerton. The funeral will take place at the Orowaiti Cemetery on Wednesday. Sympathy of the people of Millerton is extended to the relatives. Mr. Casson and Mr. T. Prendiville, members of the Coal Mines C ouncil visited the local mine late last week. They were accompanied by the President and Secretary of the Buller Miners Central Committee, F. Cunnew and J. Tyler, Messrs. J. Masterson and W. Watson (workmen’s inspectors) I and the Mine Manager. Mr. A. • Oppenshaw. Mr. W. Clarke has arrived at Millerton after visiting Rangiora. Miss Francis Fox of the G.F.O. staff, Wellington, is .spending her vacation at Millerton with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Diamond of Wellington are spending a holiday at Miller- ■ ton with Mr. and Mrs. S. Peggie. I Miss Zelda Anderson of Cobden is spending a holiday at Millerton with Mr. and Mrs. T. Porter. Mr. G. Flannagan left during the I week for Christchurch. Mrs. J. Blith returned to Millerton after visiting Nelson. Messrs. T. Grace, J. Masterson and W. Watson were the Union repre- | sentatives at the sitting of the CounI cil at Westport. Mr. and Mrs. J. Tiplady Jnr., spent the week-end in Nelson. Miss M. McEwan of Westport visited Millerton during the week-end. Miss J. Pollock of Westport visited Millerton during the week-end. Mr. and' Mrs. P. McGavin have arrived .at Millerton after visiting Christchurch. Miss J. Richmond left during the week-end for Wellington.
