JET PLANE BEING ASSEMBLED

AUCKLAND, January 30. Incorporating British inventions which have -opened a new era in the development and application of power, the Gloster Meteor Mark 111 jetpropelled aircraft lent to New Zealand by the Air Ministry is now being assembled at the Royal New Zealand Air Force station at Hobsonville. The work is being done under the supervision of a small group of New Zealand engineers, specially trained in Britain by airmen of the assembly flight, because of the complexity of the work. No date can yet be set by which it is expected to be completed, but arrangements have been made for the Meteor to be flown off from Hobsonville when it is ready. Because of its speed and handling characteristics it is likely that no attempt will be made to land it again on the comparatively small Hobsonville field, but that instead it will be landed at Whenuapai,
