SOVIET’S QUEST
For a Base in Iceland
(Rec. 11.35). NEW YORK, Jan. 30. Russia is seeking a base at Seydisfjord, on the east coast of Iceland. This is reported by the Reykjavik correspondent of the Danish newspaper “Copenhagen Information”. The Soviet has' approached the Icelandic Government with a request to lease or lend this base for use as “a traffic harbour”.
The North American Newpaper Alliance points out that it is possible that United States bases in iceland are still under discussion.
