World Flyweight Title
ANGLO-U.S.A. CONTESTS
(Rer. 9.5) WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 The President of the National Boxing Association, Mr. A. Green .has announced' that an agreement has been made with Britain for the staging of a flywewight (112 .pounds) world championship in the United States during the summer. Mr. Green said that Britain had dominated the flyweight division for years, but the U.S.A. National Boxing Association now wants it settled in the ring internationally, and Britain likes the idea. >
The present English flyweight title-holder is Jackie Patterson. Before he gets an American match, he must defend the title. Probably he will d'o so against Joe Curran, the leading contender. If Patterson is unable to make the weight, Curran will take on the next ranking flyweight. The flyweight championship lias not been held in the United States since 1923, when the Filipino, Pancho Villa, knocked out the British champion, Jimmy Wilde.
