MISS BEVERLEY BEATEN. AUCKLAND, January 29. Miss Evelyn Attwood (Auckland) brought off a major surprise at the Auckland lawn tennis championships this morning, when she defeated Miss Margaret Beverley, of Matamata, in straight sets in the ladies’ singles final. Miss Attwood won the title last year, while Miss Beverley is the former Auckland champion and this year’s national title holder. Playing easily the best tennis of her career, Miss Attwood won 9/7, 6/2.
