BOOM EXPECTED IN BRITAIN LONDON, Jan. 28

A boom in golf is expected for Britain during the coming year. There will be 13 tournaments with record prize money of more than £20,000. Three championships will be held between April and November; the Welsh professional championship at Royal Porthcawl, on June 25/26, open championship at Saint Andrews on July 1/5, and the Irish open championship at Port Marnock on July 17/19. Bobby Locke, South African champion,. is being freely tipped to win the open championship. It is expected that several Americans, including Byron Nelson, the ace money winner will be competing. Altogether, the plans for the season are stated to be the biggest for years.
