DISQUALIFY U.S. MEN IN FORCES ONE AND THREE-QUARTER MILLION REJECTS (Rec. 10.30) WASHINGTON. Sept 20 The United States Selective Service Director, Major General Hershey has disclosed that one million 767 thousand out of four million eight hundred thousand of the military service rejections in America are attributable to mental ailments or mental deficiencies. General Hershey stated this when testifying before a House Committee who, are considering legislation to co-ord’inate the study, treatment and prevention of neuro-pvschiatric disorders. General Hershey said that one oi the greatest dangers to the future was America’s failure to correct such disorders, which have been by far the greatest cause of the draft •rejections. . . Colonel Allen Challmer, of Aimy Surgeon Generals’ Office, said even after the most careful screening ot the men at the induction centres, a large number of emotional and mentai disorders occurred after the men were moved into the combat areas.
