POLISH CHILDREN

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE’S REPORT. WELLINGTON, September 20. The Polish Children’s Hospitality Committee reports that since the arrival of children in New .Zealand on November 1 last, various organisations and individual donors have supplied them through the committee with approximately 14,000 articles of gift clothing, in addition to many other articles. Garments unsuitable because they are too big or too small, or in over-supply, were transferred to the U.N.R.R.A. clothes drive. During the Christmas period sufficient toys were collected to have supplied each child in camp with three gifts, and there was sufficient tovs in store to supply the children for next Christmas. The clothing position at the present time is very good. The committee has been responsible for every child in the camp ha\ - ing had a holiday in a New Zealand home. In May, 220 children were despatched from camp £or school holidays, and in August 575 were given holidays in New Zealand homes. Some children had two holidays, because 84 convalescent children were sent to Napier for recuperation during the August holidays. The committee has in hand at the present time £270 and a. credit for £7O in the National Patriotic Fund. The Wellington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee has refunded to the Polish Children’s Hospitality Committee £222 17s 9d, net proceeds of the concert given in Wellington by Polish children.
