In addition to the 15 permits restored to trotting clubs recently, three more have since been made available, and the 18 days have been allocated to the following trotting clubs:- —- Waikato-Thames-Cambridge Combined (2), Taranaki, Wanganui, Auckland. Wellington, Canterbury Park, Timaru, Westport, Reefton, Oamaru, Invercargill, Winton, Nelson, Marlborough, Kaikoura, New Zealand Metropolitan, and Forbury Park. COMPENSATION FOR ACCIDENTS WELLINGTON, Sept. 19. The question of payment of compensation for racing and trotting accidents. raised recently in the Legislative Council by Hon. G. R. Hunter, Christchurch, was answered yesterday afternoon by the Leader of the Council, Hon. A. McLagan, wno said it was understood that the provision of compensation was already covered in the case of race meetings by a general trust fund of the New 1 Zealand Racing’Conference, and in the case of trotting meetings by a provident fund of the New Zealand Trotting Conference. REMOVAL OF RESTRICTIONS WELLINGTON, Sept. 19. In the House to-day Mr R. G. Gerard (Nat., Mid-Canterbury) sought an indication as to whether the Government had considered the removal of restrictions on racing and trotting clubs. In reply, Hon. W. E. Parry, said that, the Government was now considering this matter, and he hoped to be able to make an early announcement of future policy.

SLEEPY FOX’S PROGRAMME

(Rec. 8.5) SYDNEY, Sept. 19. Sleepy Fox has accepted for the. Clarendon Stakes, but. has been withdrawn from the Quality Handicap. Immediate has-been scratched from both races. High Play remains in the Quality Handicap and is also drawn in the first division of the Welter Handicap. Sleep Fox, who has won two weight-for-age races in Sydney, may not go to Melbourne until next autumn. Sleepy Fox has a handicap of 9.1 in the Caulfield Cup, and is considered to be more favourably handicapped in that race than in any other spring event A decision on whether he will miss the Caulfield Cup and the Victorian weight-for-age races, will be made after the spring racing in Sydney is finished. Mr O. Trigss, who is managing Sleepy Fox’s Australian programme, said that by the end of the spring racing in Sydney, Sleepy Fox would have contested six weight-for-age races. He added: “Horses are not machines, and after a hard campaign in Sydney it may not be advisable to subject Sleepy Fox immediately afterwards, to a severe programme in Melbourne.”
