One tin of fruit will be given for each coupon which can be presented at any time during the period July 2 to August 31, at any store holding stocks. The fruit is now being distributed to retailers. It comprises an assortment of Australian ‘and New Zealand’ packs and the varieties are:— Pears, peaches and apricots. The greatest percentage, however. is made up of pears. The public should realise that it is not the fault of their storekeeper if they are unable to obtain the particular variety which they desire, as supplies of peaches and apricots are very limited.

There are a number of undischarged returned servicemen who are not in possession of ration books. Thev obtain their supplies of rationed goods on emergency coupons. In such cases si orekeepers are permitted to supply these servicemen with one Lin of fruit when they are purchasing their month’s supply of sugar during either July or August. When retailers are returning Y 9 coupons to the Rationing Office after the expiry date they are required to submit a statement showing the number of tins supplied to servicemen unde’-* such circumstances. BUTTER RATIONS

The Rationing Controller announced details of the method to be adopted to restore the butter ration to the previous level of Boz to expectant and nursing mothers, persons 70 years of age and over, and certain classes and groups of workers. The extra 2oz weekly will be made available in the meantime by the issue of a card containing one butter coupon valid for half a pound for each four-weekly period from July 9 until the close of the current ration book in October. The coupons on the card are numbered emergency coupons, available for redemption with any retailer. Application for the card by expectant and nursing mothers may be made at any rationing office on and after July 10, to be supported’ by the supplementary ration book they already hold. Persons 70 years of age and over may also apply from the same date, with satisfactory proof of age and producing their current ration books for endorsement.

In both cases application may be made by another member of the family. Certain members of the New Zealand Workers’ Union and of the Freezing 'Workers’ Union, and also some railwaymen—they will receive advice through their respective organisations, from which they should inquire. Other workers who qualify should apply in the first instance to their employers.
