PLANS FOR BRITISH. .' \ . ' COMMONWEALTH. , (Rec. 5.5) LONDON, June 28. The Minister of Civil Aviation (Lord Swinton) announced that the British Commonwealth Air Transport Council would hold its first full meeting in London on July 9. All the Commonwealth countries would be sending delegations. The agenda would include a review of the progress and development of Commonwealth air communications, the provision of meteorological and radio facilities; a review of the functions of the Commonwealth Air Transport Council and the composition and location of its secretariat; the proceedings of the South Africa air transport conference and the proceedings of meetings under commissions of the International Committee on Air Navigation in Paris last April; also the general development of international civil aviation. The conference would consider a paper from New Zealand on Commonwealth co-operation in research and development. The Commonwealth Air Transport Council was formed to enable the Dominions and other parts of the British Commonwealth to plan jointly each to make a contribution to all British world-wide aerial services, on a reciprocal basis, writes “The Times” aeronautical correspondent. The first fruits of the preliminary talks in Montreal, London and Capetown are-seen in the new services between England and Australia, and that opening shortly between the United Kingdom and South Africa. The full operation,of the Council, however, cannot be expected till after the defeat of Japan. Nine countries, including all the Dominions, will be represented at the conference, which is expected to last a week.
