Finally to-night: “What a Woman.” Commencing Tuesday: “A Lady Takes a Chance” starring Jean Arthur and John Wayne. The laughing romance of a girl from a New York bank anti a boy from the great open spaces, is the theme of “A Lady' Takes A Chance,” the screen’s newst comedy hit starring Jean Arthur and John Wayne, commencing at the Recent Theatre to-morrow (Tuesday). The girl who has dreamed for years of seeing the sights of the West, finally .saves enough money to take a 17 day. bus tour to the coast. But the trip is a bore until watching a rodeo in an Oregan town she is knocked flat as a rider is catapulted off a bucking pony. The rider in apology shows her the sights of Fairfield, which is wide open and full of surprises. She misses her bus, falls in love, quarrels with her new found friend, hitchhikes across the desert to catch the bus on its return trip 1 and altogether has an exciting time not specified in the prospectus of the 17 day tour. The picture gives Miss Arthur a new stature as the screen’s finest comedienne, and offers a great surprise in the emergence of John Wayne from his western roles to delight all with a brilliant comedy portrayal of the anti-marrying hero.
